In the energy industry, wholesale customers are entities that buy natural gas or electric supply for the purpose of reselling it. Wholesale customers are differentiated from retail customers who consume the energy that they buy. Common wholesale customers include marketers, utilities, and aggregators. Note that some utilities offer wholesale rates for certain large customers that do not necessarily match our definition of “wholesale customer.”
